About Us
Serviceberry is a family-owned native plant nursery in Salmon, ID, founded on a shared passion for native plants and ecosystem stewardship. We are dedicated to growing a diverse selection of high-quality plants native to the Intermountain West, carefully cultivated to support restoration, landscaping, and conservation projects.
All of our plants are propagated from seed and cuttings ethically harvested from the Salmon Valley region or responsibly sourced from the Intermountain West.
We start our seedlings in a balanced, well-aerated growing medium made of peat moss and perlite, enriched with mycorrhizae to enhance nutrient and water uptake. As our plants mature, we transition shrubs and trees to a nutrient-rich mix of compost and decomposed pine bark, ensuring optimal drainage and healthy root development.
To support strong, resilient growth, we use fertilizers sparingly, focusing on root health and natural plant vigor while maintaining the integrity of native plant adaptations.
Our Vision
We envision a community rooted in ecological stewardship, where native plants enhance biodiversity and resilience across home gardens, municipal landscapes, and wild spaces. By providing high-quality, ecologically and genetically appropriate plant material, we strive to support a culture of restoration, connection, and shared abundance for both people and nature.
Meet the Kramers
Through their love of outdoor recreation and careers in natural resources, Colby and Amy Kramer have a shared passion for native plant restoration and environmental stewardship. Together they enjoy exploring wild landscapes through rock climbing, hiking, and rafting which always includes enthusiastic conversation surrounding plant identification and ecosystem dynamics.
The Crew:
Amy has spent over a decade working across the West conducting vegetation assessments, seed collection, and restoration projects. While working with several native plant nurseries along the way, she formed the dream of someday starting her own.
Amy earned a Master’s in Natural Resources from the University of Idaho, where she was fortunate to spend multiple summers in the Frank Church Wilderness studying native plant communities. She is fascinated by how these plants adapt to such a rugged landscape and is grateful to continue exploring the wild terrain surrounding the Salmon Valley.
Colby grew up in Eastern Idaho, spending much of his youth exploring the Lemhi Mountains at his grandpa’s cabin, where his love for the natural world took root. While serving six years in the U.S. Army, he also earned a degree in Natural Resources & Conservation from the University of Idaho.
During the week, Colby maintains a career in natural resources, specializing in environmental regulatory compliance and native plant restoration. On weekends, Colby brings his expertise, passion, and hands-on experience to the nursery—proudly embracing his role as a dedicated weekend warrior.
